PhoneTray Pro is fully compatible with Windows 10

As you know Windows 10 has been released and Windows 8 and Windows 7 users can upgrade to Windows 10 for free. PhoneTray Pro is fully compatible with Windows 10 and works without any problems on Windows 10. All USB modems that we sell and recommend are also compatible. Windows 10 has built-in drivers for all those modems. It will detect the modem and install the drivers automatically.

On some computers Windows 10 update renames PhoneTray data files. If you don’t see your contacts, calls or blocked numbers after the update, please do the following: open PhoneTray Pro, click PhoneTray logo and select Shutdown PhoneTray. Click Yes if Windows asks if you want to allow PhoneTray Service to make changes. Open C:\Users\Public\Documents\PhoneTray folder. Rename Phonetray.data located in that folder to PhonetrayNew.data. Then rename Phonetray(1).data to Phonetray.data. Double-click on PhoneTray icon on your desktop to start PhoneTray again. You should see all your data again and PhoneTray should start working. Please contact phonetray@traysoft.com if you have any problems and we will be happy to help.

  1. Did not work for me, at first. Until I noticed I forgot the “e” in Phonetray. HaHa
Added the “e” and worked like a charm. Thanks!!

  2. Excellent anticipation to Win 10 release. Instructions worked exactly as described. Saves me from looking where the file was located. Note that an upgrade from Win 8.1 to Win 10 or Win 10 1511 will cause the data file to be renamed, and looks as if you have lost all your data, which is not true ….

  3. I have Windows 10 Pro installed and Phone Tray is not logging any incoming phone calls.
I have imported and exported all my contacts so they are in place but anytime a phone call comes in it does not show up in Phone Tray and will not be blocked.

  4. Will this ever be fixed so when Windows 10 gets a major update we will not lose our Phonetray data base? Plus I did what you said and yes it did recover the data base but it was not the most recent and was actually 3 months old so a lot of my blocked phone numbers where gone. Luckily I was able to recover all the numbers I had added to the blocked list from my phone. Now I always just make sure to backup the data before installing a new build of Windows 10. I really wish this was changed so all the phonetray data was still intact without having to backup or use your instructions after a Windows 10 upgrade.

  5. Is there an issue with Hiro 56K V.92 PCI Modem, model# H50006 and Windows 10? I have been using PhoneTray Free (1.39) since 2003 and Love It! After upgrading to Windows 10, it will answer, but the caller cannot hear the Zap! message playing. I am thinking of purchasing PhoneTray Pro, but I want to make sure that my current modem will work. I am using driver AgereSoftModem2298x64. Voice and Ready both say Yes in my Device List.

  6. On January 18, 2016 at 2:22 pm Tom asked about his modem answering but not playing a Zap message. From other comments on the Internet this failure appeared after the November update to Windows 10. It is a failure I have experienced with other answering machine software.

Does Phone Tray have this problem with Windows 10 Version 1607, the current version?

    1. No, PhoneTray doesn’t have this problem with the latest build of Windows 10. The problem is related to the Unimodem Windows driver. PhoneTray talks to the modem directly, it doesn’t use the Unimodem driver, so it’s not affected by the problem.

  7. I have PhoneTray Pro and just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Under Windows 7, full screen alerts would appear over the screensaver. With Windows 10, this does not seem to be the case. I have to stop the screensaver to see the alert. Voice notification does work with the screensaver running, but not the visual notification. Is there a fix for this?

Your product is great by the way. Have been using it for years and it works flawlessly – thank you!

    1. Unfortunately Windows 10 doesn’t allow third-party programs to show anything over the screensaver. Microsoft disabled that for security reasons. You will have to disable screensaver if you need to see PhoneTray alerts.

  8. I sent a email earlier stating that Phone tray is having a problem with the latest Beta release of Windows 10. The problem is that the Caller ID and number do not display and all calls are treated as “Unavailable”. Since this new beta is the base for the full release due in the March/April time frame, the problem should be looked into.

    1. We just tested PhoneTray Pro with the latest Windows 10 Beta and it works without any issues. Most likely the problem with Caller ID is caused by the driver for your modem. Please try to update the modem driver or try another modem. All modems recommended at http://www.phonetray.com/modem work with the latest Windows 10 Beta and show Caller ID.
